About this Fit

The GP1 Fit Hybrid is the first hybrid version of Honda's second-generation Fit. It went on sale in Japan in October 2010 and was updated in May 2012. It pairs a 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol engine (LDA, 88 PS) with Honda's IMA electric motor assist and a CVT. The hybrid battery sits under the boot floor, so the boot keeps its shape. After the 2012 update Honda quoted 26.4 km/L on the Japanese JC08 cycle. Nairobi traffic will give less than that, but it suits a buyer who wants low fuel costs in a compact five-door hatch.
At around 14 years old, the hybrid battery is the main thing to check: have a technician read the IMA system for warning lights and battery health before you buy. Ask for any record of CVT fluid changes, and check the suspension and brakes as on any car this age. Stability control was not standard on Fit Hybrid grades in Japan; ABS with EBD was.
