This is the facelifted first-generation Tiguan (5N). In Japan, the main source of Kenyan used imports, the only 2.0 TSI Tiguan sold in 2014 was the R-Line 4MOTION. It has a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol engine rated at 132 kW (179 PS) and 280 Nm, a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive through a Haldex coupling. R-Line adds sports suspension, 19-inch wheels with 255/40 tyres, its own bumpers, side skirts, wheel-arch extensions and a roof spoiler.
It suits a buyer who wants a compact SUV with strong petrol performance and all-wheel grip for wet murram or slippery hills. Japan rated it at 11.5 km/L on the JC08 cycle from a 63-litre tank; real-world use in traffic will be thirstier. At this age, ask for proof of DSG oil changes and check that the gearbox pulls away smoothly without judder. Check the Haldex coupling has been serviced and listen for engine rattle on a cold start. Low-profile 19-inch tyres are costly and easy to damage on potholes, so check them and the rims.
