Nine 7-seater cars sold in Kenya compared: real seat counts, official fuel figures, ground clearance and Kenyan asking prices, checked 29 October 2026.
Checked on 29 October 2026.
A seven-seater makes sense once you are doing school runs, church on Sunday and the trip upcountry with grandparents. Kenya has plenty to choose from, from small Japanese people-carriers to full-size 4x4s. Many cars sold as "seven-seaters" also come in five- or eight-seat versions, so always count the seats before you pay.
Below are nine seven-seaters you will actually find for sale here. Fuel figures are official ratings and link to the source. Japanese cars are rated on Japan's JC08 or newer WLTC lab tests, so expect to use more fuel in real traffic.

Price ranges are Garisea's "typical range" from its price pages for the Sienta, Noah, Voxy, Wish, X-Trail, Outlander and CX-8. The Outlander figure is a median. Prado and Land Cruiser figures are the range of individual Land Cruiser listings. These ranges cover all seat layouts, not only seven-seaters.
Small and cheap to run
1. Toyota Sienta
The smallest car here, with sliding rear doors. Toyota rated the 2015 model at 27.2 km/L for the hybrid and 20.6 km/L for the petrol (JC08), and offered seven-, six- and five-seat layouts. The 2022 model comes as a five- or seven-seater. Its spec sheet gives the seven-seat hybrid 28.2 to 28.5 km/L and the petrol 18.3 km/L (WLTC), with 140 mm of ground clearance.
Good: easy to park in town, very light on fuel. Watch: the third row is best for children, and 140 mm is low for rough murram roads.
2. Honda Freed
Honda says the 2016 to 2024 Freed seats six or seven, with the hybrid rated at 27.2 km/L (JC08) and the petrol at 19.0 km/L. The Freed+ is a five-seater with only two rows.
Good: small outside, three rows inside, sliding doors. Watch: many have six seats, not seven. There were too few Kenyan listings on Garisea to give a fair price range.
3. Toyota Noah and Voxy
Boxy people-carriers with sliding doors. Toyota rated the 2014 model at 23.8 km/L for the 1.8 hybrid and 16.0 km/L for the 2.0 petrol (JC08), with seven or eight seats depending on trim. The 2022 model is rated at 23.4 km/L hybrid and 15.1 km/L petrol (WLTC, Noah X 2WD). Its spec sheet lists 140 mm ground clearance.
Good: adult-sized third row, easy entry. Watch: many are eight-seaters. Two separate middle seats usually means seven. Low clearance.
4. Toyota Wish
A low, car-like seven-seater. At its 2009 launch Toyota said the 1.8 grades seat seven and the 2.0Z seats six, rated at 16.0 km/L (1.8) and 15.2 km/L (2.0) on Japan's older 10-15 test. It was discontinued in Japan in October 2017, so under the 8-year rule a Wish can no longer be imported. Every one on sale is already registered in Kenya.
Good: the cheapest way into seven seats. Watch: age and mileage, and a third row only for children.
Family SUVs
5. Nissan X-Trail (T32)
Only some X-Trails have seven seats. Nissan's Japanese spec sheet shows a third row only on the 20X petrol. The hybrids are five-seaters. The seven-seat petrol is rated at 15.6 to 16.4 km/L (JC08), with 205 mm of ground clearance and the 2.0 petrol (108 kW).
Good: good clearance, 4WD versions available. Watch: check you are not paying seven-seat money for a five-seater.
6. Mitsubishi Outlander
Seat counts depend on the version. Japanese catalogue listings show the 2.4 petrol 24G as a seven-seater. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sold until 2021 was five-seat only, because its battery takes the space. The new PHEV launched in Japan in December 2021 seats seven in the P grade and five or seven in the G. Mitsubishi rates its electric-only range at 83 km (WLTC).
We could not confirm an official fuel figure for the seven-seat petrol from a Mitsubishi source, so we have left it out.
Good: a PHEV can do short daily trips on charge if you can plug in at home. Watch: most PHEVs in Kenyan listings are the older five-seat type.
7. Mazda CX-8
Built in Japan from December 2017 to December 2023, with six or seven seats on every grade. Mazda's launch release lists the 2.2 diesel at 140 kW and 450 Nm, rated at 15.8 km/L for 2WD and 15.4 km/L for AWD (WLTC). A Japanese catalogue lists 200 mm ground clearance. Petrol versions were added in 2018.
Good: SUV height with a frugal diesel. Watch: six-seat cars look the same from outside.
Full-size 4x4s
8. Toyota Prado (J150)
Kenya's favourite family 4x4. Some grades seat five and some seven, and the third row folds into the floor and seats two. Japanese WLTC ratings run from 8.3 km/L for the 2.7 petrol to 11.2 km/L for the 2.8 diesel.
Good: a proper 4x4 built for rough roads. Watch: on the 2.8 diesel, look for exhaust filter (DPF) warnings and white smoke.
9. Toyota Land Cruiser 300
The top of the range. Toyota Japan's spec sheet shows seven seats on the petrol ZX, GR Sport, VX and AX. The GX and both diesels are five-seaters. The 3.5 petrol is rated at 7.9 to 8.0 km/L and the 3.3 diesel at 9.7 km/L (WLTC). Ground clearance is 225 mm.
Good: space, comfort and serious off-road ability. Watch: the price, premium petrol, and the fact that the seven-seat version in Japan is the petrol.
Which one should you buy?
- Mostly Nairobi, tight budget: Sienta, Freed or Wish.
- Big family, tarmac: Noah or Voxy.
- Some murram, mid budget: a seven-seat X-Trail or CX-8.
- Rough roads and long trips: Prado, or a Land Cruiser if the budget allows.
Whatever you choose, count the seats, check the chassis number against the logbook and get a mechanic to look underneath. Questions buyers ask
What is the cheapest 7-seater car in Kenya?
On Garisea's 29 October 2026 data, the Toyota Wish had the lowest typical asking prices, about KES 980,000 to KES 1,633,750. The Sienta came next.
Which 7-seater uses the least fuel?
The hybrid Sienta and Freed have the best official ratings here, both 27.2 km/L on Japan's JC08 test for their older models. Real-world use will be higher.
Is the Noah a 7-seater or an 8-seater?
Both exist. Toyota sells it with seven or eight seats depending on trim and seat type. Count the seats in the middle row.
Can I import a Toyota Wish in 2026?
No. It was discontinued in 2017, and in 2026 Kenya only accepts imports first registered from 1 January 2019. Buy a Kenyan-registered one.
Which 7-seater is best for rough roads?
The Prado or Land Cruiser. Among cheaper options, the X-Trail (205 mm) and CX-8 (200 mm) sit higher than the Sienta or Noah (140 mm on recent models).
