Mitsubishi sold the first-generation Pajero Sport in the UK as the Shogun Sport. It is a mid-size 4x4, smaller and simpler than the full Pajero. This version uses the 2.5-litre 4D56 turbodiesel, rated at 115 hp and 240 Nm at 2,000 rpm, with a five-speed manual gearbox. It is not quick: 0-100 km/h takes about 18.5 seconds and top speed is about 150 km/h. The 74-litre tank and simple mechanical layout suit buyers who want a straightforward diesel 4x4 over a sophisticated one.
Published consumption is about 13.1 L/100 km in town and 9.0 L/100 km on the open road (roughly 7.5 to 11 km/L). At this age, check the clutch and gearbox for clean shifts, and make sure two- and four-wheel drive engage and disengage properly. Look for smoke or hard starting on the turbodiesel, and check the underbody for corrosion and off-road damage. New tyres are a plus, but confirm the size matches the specification.
